VOLUNTEERING AT CENTRO REVERDE
Volunteers are at the heart of Centro ReVerde’s collaborative and community driven model. To be honest, we only exist because of the hard work and love of our volunteers. Our volunteers are responsible for everything at the farm, and in exchange we offer you coordination, three cooked meals a day, a bed in our dedicated volunteer house which has three showers and a private bathroom, all the electricity you can use, and unlimited cuddles with our farm animals. We are situated 7 km from the heart of Puerto Maldonado, Peru’s “Capital of Biodiversity”, located in the region of Madre de Dios. The center of town is a 10 – 20 minute journey from the farm. There is limited phone signal at the farm, but we are always happy to offer you a taxi service into town or arrange transport.
At the farm we work Mondays to Saturdays, Sundays are at leisure to explore the local town and forest, but you can always schedule a couple of extra days off. Science is at the top of our agenda, so you can expect to learn a variety of data collection techniques, as well as receiving one-on-one support if you are interested in carrying out your own research project. We have a weekly paper reading group to practice our critical evaluation skills as well as to better understand and enhance our own research designs. Farm activities are varied, you may enjoy harvesting seeds, preparing soils, machete work, construction, permaculture design, growing vegetables, looking after the animals, teaching english to the 5 local students in the primary school, collecting data etc. Do not worry about the activities, let us know your ambitions and health requirements when you arrive and we will make sure to accommodate your needs and abilities in our work plan.
We have two staff working full time to help orientate and train our volunteers. They will do everything they can to help you and make you feel at home. In exchange, we have a participatory fee of $40 per person per night for stays of up to one month, and $20 per person per night after the first month. I am so sorry if that feels like a lot of money, but it is necessary to pay our staff, train you, equip you, feed you as much as you can possibly eat and offer you clean and hygienic services during your stay.
Thank you soo much for the great time you let me spend at your Farm. I really learnd a lot about trees, how to plant them, what they need. It is a great place to learn about conservation and sustainable cattle production. Lucy and everyone is very cool and we became friends fast. The farm has everything you need, just for internet you have to go to Puerto Maldonado, which is easy to reach. They have nice pets around there.
Hola! Lucy and friends thank you for the experience and time we shared. This projects aim is awesome and Im so glad I helped in creating it. Appreciate the experience and things I learned. Also admiring lucy as a person working hard for a better future for this planet
What a great experience! Working here for 3 weeks i learned so much. I came to Peru with no idea what was in store for me & i couldn't have been luckier. While i was there we were preparing the land for planting & i learned all about Lucy's new method for rehabilitating the rainforest. I also got to work on my spanish & learn about the culture in Puerto Maldonado & Peru in general. Good food, lots of free time to explore the area & the tiniest cat ever to exist! Thanks so much Lucy!
It is very rewarding to be part of this project. Lucy has a clear vision of what she wants to achieve and have dedicated a big part of her life to this project that can have great positive effects for the reforestation of the Amazon rainforest. We had a lot of fun with the guys involved in the project, Wili, Carlos and Jhonatan and took care of the loving pets Dara, Olive and the "miracle" pussy Mishu. Thank you so much Lucy with team and we hope you will get a Nobel prize!
I worked three weeks planting trees. The project is fascinating and unique. Lucy has worked hard for her study and I felt it is a really important reforestation project. During my time we were many volunteers and we made a great team. Sometimes it was quite hard to work in the field but Lucy was flexible and let us choose our working hours. There was a plenty of time just to relax in hammock, play cards, cook delicious meals and have discussions with other volunteers. Lucy is a brave and knowledgeable woman with many strong visions. I wish all the best for the project because now I know it aint easy working in the peruvian jungle!
